It’s time to get down and dirty!

Sensory play not only entertains but also helps children build important cognitive skills, stimulates your child’s senses, and promotes creativity and problem-solving skills.

According to Parents.com, “Not only does it help your child engage their five senses—sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste—but it also boosts their language skills and motor skills.” Read the full article here to learn more!

top 5 sensory activities to do at home:

1. Sensory Bin Exploration

Set up a sensory bin filled with rice, beans, or water beads for tactile exploration. You can also create a scent guessing game using herbs or spices. Make it even more fun by adding different seasons and holidays! Add small toys or objects for your child to discover by digging and sifting through the sensory materials. Think construction or farm trucks!

2. Texture Collage –

Collect a variety of textured materials such as fabric scraps, sandpaper, cotton balls, and bubble wrap. Help your child glue these materials onto a piece of paper to create a textured collage.

3. Scented Playdough –

Make homemade playdough and add different scents using essential oils or extracts (e.g., lavender, peppermint, lemon). Encourage your child to explore the different smells while shaping and molding the playdough.

4. Sensory Bottles –

Fill empty plastic bottles with a combination of water, glitter, beads, and small objects. Secure the lids tightly with a hot glue gun and let your child shake and observe the contents, providing visual and auditory stimulation.

5. Sensory Walk –

Create a sensory path using various materials such as foam mats, bubble wrap, textured rugs, and fabric scraps. Have your child walk barefoot along the path to experience different sensations under their feet.
